Questions & Advice

How soon can I paint my ceiling and walls after plastering?

Most newly plastered walls will be ready to paint in a week, give or take a few days depending on the conditions.

How can I tell when the plaster is dry and ready to paint?

When the surface is first plastered it is a dark pink, you will then notice paler patches which is the plaster drying. When the whole surface area is a pale pink and there are no more dark areas then it should be ready to paint.

Do I need to use any special paint for the first coat?

There are paints available which are designed especially for the first coat, but you can easily mix your own watered down emulsion as a first coat at a ratio of approximately 1 part water to 1 part paint. Once this has fully dried you can then apply 2 full coats of your chosen coloured paint.
